Australia Reviews China Port Lease Near U.S. Military Outpost | Source: Wall Street Journal

Australian defense officials are reviewing whether a 99-year lease granted to Shandong Landbridge Group to operate Darwin Port. The port handles ammunition used by U.S. marines and the Australian troops who train with them. It is also the most suitable site in northern Australia for a major naval base and provides the country’s closest route to disputed South China Sea waters.

US Looks to Store Weapons in Northern Australia Amid China Threat | Source: The Epoch Times

The United States wants to put military weapons in the north of Australia to project force amid Beijing’s growing strategic threats, according to U.S. ­ambassador to Australia. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison considers it a priority of the government to create a sovereign guided weapons capability.

China Acquires Land Around Japanese Military Base: Report | SOURCE: INDIAN NEWS REPUBLIC

More than 700 Chinese-funded land transactions were detected by a Japanese research group around a Japanese military base, according to a local newspaper. Authorities confirmed that the affected areas were around the Japan Self-Defense Forces, US Army military bases in Japan, the Japanese Coast Guard, and space exploration facilities.

PetroChina International Singapore Pte Ltd sold a cargo of jet fuel into Myanmar, the first such shipment since before the military seized power in a coup in February. The shipment could raise new questions over China’s role in Myanmar at a time when it has been accused by the junta’s opponents of backing coup leader Min Aung Hlaing – an accusation rejected by Beijing.
