There are very fertile areas for Sino-Africa economic partnership in energy and hydro-power production, agro-processing, and Information and Communication Technology, among others, much of this is happening through thriving Public Private Partnerships in many African countries. Africa also has some of the world’s rarest minerals and raw materials in vast quantities.

Russia-led security bloc to conduct military exercises in Central Asia due to situation in Afghanistan | Source: Asia Plus

Three more military exercises will be conducted close to the Tajik-Afghan border in October.

The Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) says it plans to conduct military exercises in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan due to the ongoing situation in Afghanistan. There were already war game conducted against the background of the aggravation of the situation and the threat of penetration of radical terrorist groups into the border countries of the Central Asian region.

China holds firm on Xinjiang as neighbouring Afghanistan poses security concerns | Source: South China Morning Post

China has vowed to press on with its security measures in Xinjiang amid concerns about the developing situation in neighbouring Afghanistan, which shares a mountainous 74km  border with the northwestern Chinese region. Beijing has been keen to promote stability in Afghanistan, not least because of its concerns over a terrorism “spillover” across the border by the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) – a separatist group founded by militant Uygurs which Beijing blamed for a spate of violent attacks in Xinjiang.

Japan Ruling Party Lawmakers Back Taiwan Joining Trade Pact | Source: Bloomberg

Lawmakers from Japan’s ruling party backed Taiwan’s entry into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership during first-of-their-kind security talks with Taiwanese counterparts meant to counter China’s influence, in the latest effort by Tokyo to bolster the democratically ruled island. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian criticized the LDP-DPP talks Friday, saying that Taiwan’s status “concerns the political foundation” of Beijing’s relationship with Tokyo.

Russia, India to form permanent channel for consultations on Afghan crisis | Source: Aki Press

Russia and India agreed to form a permanent bilateral channel for consultations on Afghanistan. New Delhi has been very cautious on issues relating to the Taliban – first stating that the group would have legitimacy issues if it took power by force and then later nuancing it to the slam only Haqqani group and groups like the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). While the Haqqani group has targeted the Indian embassy in Kabul, the LeT and JeM foment terrorism in Kashmir.

China urges Taliban to crack down on terrorism, after bomb attacks kill dozens in Kabul | Source: Global Times

China has urged the Afghan Taliban to fulfill its promises, break off with all terrorist organizations and address obstacles that hinder regional security and development cooperation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said, after two bomb attacks near Kabul airport killed at least 13 US soldiers and dozens of Afghanis. Afghan Taliban had clarified to China that it will not allow any forces to harm China through incursions made via Afghanistan and urged it to fulfill promises to break off with all terrorist organizations.

Russia seeks to assure India of partnership as Moscow, Beijing align positions on Afghanistan | Source: South China Morning Post

Russian and India agreed to set up a joint team of foreign affairs and national security officials to assess the situation in Afghanistan. As world leaders debate how or whether to engage with the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan, Russia has sought to assure its long-time partner India that New Delhi’s views matter. India and Russia define their ties as a “special and privileged strategic partnership”.
