Armenia close to new agreement with Azerbaijan | SOURCE: EURASIA NET

Armenia is set to sign an agreement with Azerbaijan that could address many of the current disputes between the two sides. The news of a draft agreement came amid one of the tensest periods in post-war Armenia, as an Azerbaijani incursion into a border region in southern Armenia raised fears that fighting could resume again.

Russia proposed to create a joint commission to demarcate the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Offered to assist at the beginning of the delimitation and demarcation of the border, taking the initiative on the creation of a joint Armenian-Azerbaijani commission for this purpose, in which the Russian Federation could take part as a consultant, mediator.

Iran, Russia discuss Armenia-Azerbaijan border situation | SOURCE: MEHR NEWS

TEHRAN, May 18 (MNA) – Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali met and held talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border situation.

Iran held talks with Russia on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The last round of tensions between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia began on September 27 over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, with the two sides accusing each other of invading their territories.

  • The first meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia after their six-week war over Nagorno-Karabakh last year has clearly shown that Russia is rebuilding its leadership in the Caucasus, leaving little room for Turkey, which helped Azerbaijan prevail on the battlefield. According to the joint statement, Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia will establish a joint working group, while Turkey was not even mentioned in the statement.
