US outlines increased missile defenses as North Korean threats ramp up | Source: NK News

A Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptor is launched during the system’s first operational test at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii on Oct. 5, 2011.

The Pentagon will introduce better interceptors and bolster its missile defense posture to respond to challenges including North Korea’s continued development of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBMs) and submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs). “Despite economic sanctions and the continued impact of COVID-19, North Korea continues to modernize and increase the survivability, lethality and diversification of its missile force,” Top U.S. defense official said.

Belarusian Defense Minister announced high NATO activity near borders | Source: Tass

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin.

Belarusian Defense Minister noted the high intensity of NATO reconnaissance activity, as well as operational and combat preparations near the Belarusian border. The intensity of military aviation flights over neighboring countries has reached up to 30 sorties per week, which “makes it possible to carry out reconnaissance of our entire territory”. “The main cause – is NATO’s and the EU’s desire to impose its will without obstructions”.

US troops may be deployed from Afghanistan to Russian borders | SOURCE: MEHR NEWS

United States may redeploy troops coming out of Afghanistan into Uzbekistan or Tajikistan, two of the three former Soviet republics bordering the war-torn country to its north, the Wall Street Journal reports. The newspaper’s sources admit, however, that Russia’s military presence in the region and China’s growing influence “complicate plans” for any US deployments in Central Asia.

The European Union will allow the United States, Norway and Canada to join a project to overcome delays in moving troops across Europe. The decision means NATO members Norway, Canada and the United States also become the first foreign countries to collaborate in the EU’s Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) pact, which aims to deepen defence ties.
