China Stresses Strong Relations with Syria | Source: Syrian Observer

The Ambassador of China to Syria reaffirmed the strong relations that exist between Damascus and Beijing, in political and economic spheres. Until now, China used its veto right 10 times in the UN Security Council to protect Syria from certain draft resolutions, and appealed to the international community to immediately lift all the sanctions and the economic siege imposed on Syria. “Despite the American and western countries’ sanctions on Syria, China is still Syria’s most important trade partner”.

US inclined to relocate its bases from Iraq to Kuwait, Jordan | Source: Mehr News

A Lebanese newspaper quoted informed sources that the recent agreement between Baghdad and Washington includes the withdrawal of all 2,500 US troops from Iraq, after which Washington intends to move its bases in Iraq to Jordan and Kuwait. The US forces will remain in Iraq only for advisory and training purposes.

Iraq, Egypt, Jordan agree to boost security and economic ties at Baghdad summit | Source: France 24

Egypt, Jordan and Iraq agreed to bolster security and economic cooperation at a tripartite summit. The move came as Iraq seeks to move closer to Arab allies of the United States in the Middle East. Iraq is also seeking to establish itself as a mediator between Arab countries and Iran, after reportedly hosting talks in April between Tehran and Riyadh.

  • France would take part in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), and the United States will join as an observer. Egypt, Israel, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Jordan and the Palestinian Authority established the EMGF in September last year, as an intergovernmental organisation that seeks to promote natural gas exports from the eastern Mediterranean.

  • JORDAN: Jordan’s top court has dissolved the country’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, a pan-Islamic movement with both charitable and political arms, supported by Turkey and Qatar. The Muslim Brotherhood has been outlawed as a “terrorist” group in Egypt and banned in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries in the region.
