China installs new shelters for troops near LAC in eastern Ladakh | Source: The Asian Age

China has put in place new modular container-based accommodations for its troops in several high-altitude forward areas on its side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Some sources said India is also ramping up construction of tunnels, bridges roads and other critical infrastructure in eastern Ladakh and other areas along the nearly 3,500-km LAC.

Ladakh standoff: No agreement on disengagement at friction areas, say India, China | Source: Scroll.in

The Indian Army and the Chinese military have said that the 12th round of Corps Commanders meeting was constructive but they have not reached an agreement for disengagement at friction areas of Gogra and Hot Springs in eastern Ladakh. India and China have been locked in a border standoff since their troops clashed in Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh in June last year.

  • China said it held “candid” talks with India on troops’ disengagement in the disputed Ladakh region of the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. Beijing’s statement comes amid reports that the People’s Liberation Army is deploying advanced long-range rocket systems along its border with India.

  • India rejected a map redrawn by Pakistan showing Indian territories of Kashmir and parts of Gujarat as part of its own land. Pakistan is seen to have been emboldened to take such a step after recent Chinese incursions into Indian territories in Ladakh, the resulting skirmishes between troops of the two sides and the present stalemate.
