  • President Biden has vowed to rally the United States’ partners to persuade Asian allies to support sanctions or moves to isolate Myanmar´s regime after military coup. They anticipate it will be no easy task. In Asia, there is a sense that two decades of sanctions in the 1990s and 2000s during Myanmar’s earlier period of military rule simply pushed the junta closer to China.
