Russia to send air defense missile systems to Serbia amid escalation on Kosovo border | Source: UA Wire

Russia will deploy air defense forces to Serbia for joint military exercises, which will be held in October amid the escalation in Kosovo. Kosovo police units were dispatched to two border crossings in the north of the country, home to predominantly ethnic Serbs who do not recognize the government in Pristina.

The leaders of Serbia and Kosovo are relaunching EU-mediated talks in Brussels that are aimed at normalizing their relations. Both Washington and Brussels insist that normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina is essential for their further integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions.

  • Turkey urged Kosovo against opening an embassy in Jerusalem, saying doing so would undermine UN resolutions and hurt the Palestinian cause.   • The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Bulgarian section of the TurkStream natural gas pipeline from Russia, known as Balkan Stream, is set to be completed as scheduled (by January 1 2021), despite USA sanctions on companies involved in Russian energy projects. The route goes through Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary to deliver gas to the European consumers.
