Beijing announced that it firmly opposes Indian vice president’s visit to a disputed area on the China-India border, the so-called “Arunachal Pradesh”, urging New Delhi to refrain from moves that complicate boundary issues and bring China-India relations back on the right track and steady development. The so-called “Arunachal Pradesh” was established largely on three areas of China’s Tibet – Monyul, Loyul and Lower Tsayul – which are currently under India’s illegal occupation.

China installs new shelters for troops near LAC in eastern Ladakh | Source: The Asian Age

China has put in place new modular container-based accommodations for its troops in several high-altitude forward areas on its side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Some sources said India is also ramping up construction of tunnels, bridges roads and other critical infrastructure in eastern Ladakh and other areas along the nearly 3,500-km LAC.

The leaders of Russia and Pakistan have held conversations to “coordinate” their position on the situation in Afghanistan, statements from both governments say, ahead of a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) later this week. The US Federal Reserve, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, meanwhile, have continued a freeze on Afghan assets, a measure put in place after the Taliban seized power from the elected Afghan government in August.

Russian, Indian top security brass agree to coordinate approaches to work on Afghanistan | Source: TASS

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and National Security Advisor for the Indian Prime Minister Ajit Doval have agreed to coordinate the two countries’ approaches to efforts related to Afghanistan. “China attaches great importance to the announcement by the Taliban of the establishment of an interim government and some important personnel arrangements,” said foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin. Analysts have said a stable and cooperative administration in Kabul would open economic opportunities for China and allow for expansion of its massive overseas infrastructure drive, the Belt and Road Initiative. The Taliban may also see China as a crucial source of economic support and potentially a key ally.

Russia & Pakistan may start building major gas pipeline soon | Source: RT

Construction works on the Pakistan Stream gas pipeline project are expected to start in the near future after several rounds of consultations. In late May, the two countries signed a deal on building a major gas pipeline linking the Pakistani southern port of Karachi and another port city, Gwadar, to power plants and industrial hubs in Pakistan’s northern region of Punjab. The project is expected to become the largest infrastructure deal between the two nations since the early 1970s, when the Soviet Union built the Pakistan Steel Mills industrial complex, at Port Qasim near Karachi.
